If the canvas is the primal surface of a painting, Oxalis questions the surface and materials of a photograph through light, the central element of the medium. Oxalis is inspired by sundials and our measurement of time through light. The pieces of light in the photographs are both gathered from daily life as well as shaped by playful experiments in the artist’s studio. The photographs serve as fragments of our rotation around the sun, a cycle that is seemingly insignificant yet grand.
